Bandwidth

It goes without saying, the higher the bandwidth the faster the performance of the software. Since telecom companies charge “per bandwidth per node”, the monthly cost can creep up quickly. The bandwidth is affected by the number of exchanges the signal has to travel from the remote workstation to reach the main server. IT people use the PING test to measure the time a packet does a complete round. A desired result is in the range of 28 to 32 milliseconds.

Telephone Exchange

In some governorates in Egypt, the telephone exchanges are still analog or have reached full capacity. The carrier usually have ways to overcome this hurdle in most cases. We have encountered the situation where some nodes were not able to connect. This, however, has been improving dramatically in the past few years.

Carriers

There are few reputable data carriers in Egypt, namely; Raya and EgyNet. They should not be confused with Internet Service Providers (ISP) since they are licensed to plant and own the cables and switches connecting the exchanges in almost all governorates.
