Mission Critical

The term “mission critical” was coined when the first main frames appeared in the 50’s and 60’s. It sums up many technical issues into one phrase “we plan the down time”. In other words, every precaution is made to predict what can go wrong and take needed measures to prevent it. Issues like: hardware, applications, virus attack, network cables, ADSL lines, frame relays, database, web servers, electric failures, database corruption, operating system failure, and so on.

Server Specifications

The technology gap between the low and high end servers is very large. Server prices can range between $1,000 to $15,000 for small to medium organizations (Large enterprises buy much more expensive machines to accommodate their needs).

The decision on which server to choose depends on the specific application the machine will serve. For instance, in a small LAN of a few workstations (up to 10) where the number of transactions are not too many, then a small-end server will be more than enough. Businesses need to put two (2) servers; one live, and the other as a mirror backup. Should the requirement is to host the application on the net by installing a Oracle Application Server or IBM WebSphere or Microsoft .Net, then a 3rd server will need to be added.

Whichever size server is chosen, we recommend a “branded” server from one of the top reputable hardware companies. If you wish, a Kash IBM representative will be more than happy to quote you an IBM server based on your configuration. Assembled machines (even with the best components in them) are not tested for reliability and do not have the middleware software to handle hardware error conflicts.

Biometric

The technology of biometrics, whether fingerprint, hand profile, eye recognition, or any other, has reached a high level of maturity and stability. The costs of the units have become very affordable to any enterprise. We recommend the fingerprint scanners to use for Time Attendance punching. Users do not need to enter a  password and the units can memorize more than 3 fingerprints for each user.

Handheld Barcode Scanners

For quick and accurate inventory management, the handheld barcode scanners are instrumental to the success of the process. It allows for large volume scanning away from the computer terminal and are indispensable during a Physical Inventory stock take.

There are hundreds of makes in the market and we recommend the ones that can be programmed to carry many data files, read all barcode types, connect to PC's through keyboard wedges or USB ports and finally, have a rugged shell to absorb shocks and abuse.
